I accidentally damaged a few plastic sleeves while photographing these threads. I've discounted those with damaged sleeves (the threads are still in new condition) so you can grab a bargain.
Sashiko thread, used in sashiko embroidery and popular with menders, is a strong, smooth, cotton thread that’s perfect for mending denim. The strands are twisted together and not meant to be separated.
Rainbow sashiko thread is the unicorn of the bunch. Whenever I use this thread in class for demos, magic twinkles appear in students’ eyes, they stop listening to me and start asking about the thread.

The cheery colours and short colour changes add a fun surprise element to visible-mending projects. I don’t often use sashiko thread for darning, but I like using this thread to darn cotton athletic socks, to make it seem fun (in a Mary Poppins kind of way).
This thread makes a great gift – particularly for new menders and kids and anyone who needs more mending motivation.
Each skein contains 40m of sashiko thread. I've photographed a few examples of each colourway to show how they vary in appearance; each skein contains the same thread (just bundled differently).
NOTE: to avoid tangles, pre-cut and plait/braid sashiko thread before you use it.
For variegated, stranded embroidery thread with more colour options and more mending versatility, try Cottage Garden Threads.
Made in Japan from 100% cotton and wrapped with a paper band inside a clear plastic sleeve.
This shop is in slow mode while I adapt to life as a new mum! Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
I'm currently dispatching orders once a week; place your order by 5pm Thursday Melbourne time (AEDT) for dispatch the next day (Friday).
Australia Post is experiencing significant delays. If you select Express Post at checkout, it will speed up Australia Post's delivery timeframe but won't speed up my process.
After your order has been packed, you will receive an email notification with your Australia Post tracking number, which you can use to check on the delivery status of your order.
Northcote/Thornbury customers can select local delivery at checkout. Local deliveries coincide with my pram-walking schedule, usually 1-3 days after purchase. ٩(｡•́‿•̀｡)۶
For the best chance of receiving your order in time for Christmas, order by 5pm on 9 December for standard shipping, and 5pm on Thursday 16 December for Express Post and local delivery.
This shop will close for Christmas at 5pm on 16 December. Orders placed after that time will be shipped in January (exact date to be determined) when the shop reopens. The exception is gift vouchers, which are available for purchase 24/7 and delivered automagically by email!
Check Australia Post's estimated delivery deadline for your country here, then add one week for my processing time.
