Excellent matte embroidery yarn

This was the perfect yarn for a mending project where I wanted to avoid the slight gloss of DMC embroidery floss. It’s lovely to work with and has a satisfying matte finish.

Lovely!!!

Scanfil cotton mending yarn is ideal for hand-stitching and darning thin clothing and other textiles, particularly those made from cotton and other plant-based fibres.

It’s similar in thickness to all-purpose cotton sewing thread or one strand of embroidery thread – use one or more strands to suit the item you’re mending. (If darning with multiple strands, I recommend binding them together first with beeswax to prevent weaving through the wrong threads and getting lost in a darning maze.)

Each card contains 15m of mending yarn in four strands.

The neutral colours are well-suited to blended mends for everyday items: tea towels, undergarments, school uniforms and the ubiquitous (and short-lived) thin, cotton business socks.

Made in the Netherlands from 100% cotton, wound onto cardstock.

For a more colourful cotton option, try Cottage Garden Threads embroidery thread and for an organic option try Scanfil organic cotton sewing thread (for stitching only). If you need to darn wool and other animal fibres, try Mend it - limited-edition upcycled mending yarn or Scanfil mending wool. For a thick cotton option if you need to darn chunky, hand-knit clothing, I recommend using cotton knitting yarn instead (not available here; ask your knitter friends for scraps or support your local yarn shop!).

Want to see how it’s done? Modern Mending the book includes 32 pages of darning instructions and 18 pages of hand-stitching instructions, with photographs and illustrated diagrams.

This shop is in slow mode while I adapt to life as a new mum! Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

I'm currently dispatching orders once a week; place your order by 5pm Thursday Melbourne time (AEDT) for dispatch the next day (Friday).

Australia Post is experiencing significant delays. If you select Express Post at checkout, it will speed up Australia Post's delivery timeframe but won't speed up my process.

After your order has been packed, you will receive an email notification with your Australia Post tracking number, which you can use to check on the delivery status of your order.

Local delivery
Northcote/Thornbury customers can select local delivery at checkout. Local deliveries coincide with my pram-walking schedule, usually 1-3 days after purchase. ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶

Christmas deadlines
Australian customers:
For the best chance of receiving your order in time for Christmas, order by 5pm on 9 December for standard shipping, and 5pm on Thursday 16 December for Express Post and local delivery.

This shop will close for Christmas at 5pm on 16 December. Orders placed after that time will be shipped in January (exact date to be determined) when the shop reopens. The exception is gift vouchers, which are available for purchase 24/7 and delivered automagically by email!

International customers:
Check Australia Post's estimated delivery deadline for your country here, then add one week for my processing time.
