If you wear - and wear out - denim jeans, you need this in your kit. The variegated thread creates a strong, almost invisible repair on any similarly-coloured fabric, perfect for rips, holes, and worn areas. But considering how useful this thread is, it's astonishingly difficult to get hold of. So it's well worth adding a spool to your order in whichever colour best suits your jeans (I find the medium is most versatile, especially for worn denim). Highly recommended!

Do you have holes in the crotch, thigh or seat of your jeans? (I’m betting you do, because it’s the number-one mending problem I get asked about).

Gutermann jeans thread is a specialty polyester/cotton-blend sewing thread with blue and white tones, making it ideal for blended mends on denim, when you don’t ever want anyone to know about or pay attention to the area you've mended. Use it to repair jeans with a sewing machine, overlocker or by hand.

I have a collection of blue threads that I use for invisibly mending denim, and I use this thread most often because its multicoloured appearance means it blends in with more fabrics, including faded denim with multiple shades of blue.

This thread is hard to get a hold of and I have to special-order it from Germany, so supply is irregular. (If you have an unmentionable-hole situation now, don’t wait to find your mending mojo before you order it, because it might not be here when you need it.)

Each spool contains 100m of thread.

Want to see how it’s done? Modern Mending the book includes 20 pages of detailed instructions on machine darning – the strongest, most invisible method for mending crotch holes in jeans.

Made in China from 70% polyester / 30% cotton, on a plastic spool.

Slow mode

This shop is in slow mode so I can do alllll the things – including running this shop and running after two tiny tots – and enjoy my life. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

I'm currently dispatching orders once a week; place your order by 5pm Thursday Melbourne time (AEST) for dispatch by Monday.
(NOTE: I drop off most orders at my local post office on Fridays, but I'm told they don't physically leave the post office and start making their way to you until Monday.)

If you select Express Post at checkout, it will speed up Australia Post's delivery timeframe but won't speed up my process.

After your order has been packed, you will receive an email notification with your Australia Post tracking number, which you can use to check on the delivery status of your order.

Local delivery

Customers in Northcote, Thornbury and nearby suburbs (subject to capacity) can select local delivery at checkout. Local delivery is extra-slow and coincides with my pram-walking/kid-wrangling schedule, up to one week after purchase. ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶
