This lovely, matte cotton thread from Japan is similar in style and thickness to sashiko thread, but it’s hand-dyed with plants!
Like sashiko thread, the strands are twisted together and not meant to be separated. Unlike most commercially available sashiko thread, this thread is slightly softer, comes in delicious (or should I say Temaricious?) naturally derived colours and is not packaged in plastic.
It’s ideal for slow stitching, darning, embroidery, cross stitch, tassels, pom poms and the Japanese arts of sashiko, temari, kumihimo and yubinuki.
Each skein contains 12.5m of thread. Thread thickness is equivalent to no. 25 3/6.
Temaricious thread is no longer in production; if you are planning a large project it’s best to buy multiples while the colours you love are available.
Overwhelmed by all the gorgeous colour choices? Select one or more 'ELF's choice' skeins and I’ll pick for you!
NOTE: Temaricious thread is a naturally dyed product. Please store in a dark place to minimise colour fade. Colours may be uneven. To avoid tangles, I recommend pre-cutting and plaiting/braiding the thread before you use it.
Made in Japan from 100% cotton, wrapped with a paper label.

Slow mode
This shop is in slow mode so I can do alllll the things – including running this shop and running after two tiny tots – and enjoy my life. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
I'm currently dispatching orders once a week; place your order by 5pm Thursday Melbourne time (AEST) for dispatch by Monday.
(NOTE: I drop off most orders at my local post office on Fridays, but I'm told they don't physically leave the post office and start making their way to you until Monday.)
If you select Express Post at checkout, it will speed up Australia Post's delivery timeframe but won't speed up my process.
After your order has been packed, you will receive an email notification with your Australia Post tracking number, which you can use to check on the delivery status of your order.
Local delivery
Customers in Northcote, Thornbury and nearby suburbs (subject to capacity) can select local delivery at checkout. Local delivery is extra-slow and coincides with my pram-walking/kid-wrangling schedule, up to one week after purchase. ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶
